Level-5 released character art of people working in the twenty different job-based “lives” in the developer’s newly announced Fantasy Life . The designs show the very Little King’s Story -esque style being used by character designer Hideo Minaba, which is going to charm the money right out of our bank accounts. Each one of these lives represents a unique set of quests, and a unique ending with a different Nobuo Uematsu vocal theme.

Dell coupon slims down prices on new console SKUs

Dell’s website is basically always the cheapest way to get a new console, as the company frequently offers 15% off coupons that can be applied to console purchases (as well as “computers” or whatever). That discount is always wonderful, but it’s particularly exciting right now, what with the launch of the new PS3 Slim.

Nomura: No Closed Mega Theater at TGS, but playable FFXIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

Tokyo Game Show attendees will have one fewer giant line to contend with this year: Square Enix will not run its traditional ” Closed Mega Theater ,” during which new trailers are debuted. Producer Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu (as translated by Andriasang ) that the company is putting its efforts into promoting games that are coming out sooner , which means playable demos instead of giant trailers for distant games. The focus on playable and near-future titles also means that Square Enix won’t be showing games like Final Fantasy Versus XIII , Final Fantasy Agito XIII , and The 3rd Birthday — all of which appeared in trailer form at the last TGS, but still aren’t playable

Cheat at Monster Hunter 3, get banned until 9999 AD

Even long after Bruce Willis has saved the universe , identified cheaters will still be unable to play Monster Hunter 3 . At least that’s the case for one Japanese player who tried to connect online and was given this prompt (in Japanese; machine translation here ), indicating that he’d been banned until December 12, 9999. The message cited “modded data” as the cause for the banning and while we can’t confirm that there was any questionable data on the system, we will say that if you’re looking to hunt monsters (possibly around early 2010 ), you may want to avoid the uber hax !!1! option

Sucker Punch looking for an artist hip to ‘urban style’

When we read on superannuation that Sucker Punch was looking for a lead character artist — one that “should be aware of current urban style and street fashion” — we, like you, thought, “Oh, that’s nice, Sucker Punch is making another inFamous game.” But, since we’re professionals , we went beyond our first instinct to see what else we could come up with. We then decided that we were pretty sure about the inFamous thing after all. So remember, if Sucker Punch is making a sequel to Marc Ecko’s Getting Up (which has got to be called Marc Ecko’s Going Back to Bed ) or a new Jet Grind Radio , you saw the possibility roundly dismissed on Joystiq first .

Digital Foundry examines why 360 and PS3 can’t take the heat

You could make the argument that system reliability has been the preeminent conversation of this console generation, but it’s one often clouded by speculation and a lack of reliable information. Digital Foundry talked to Darren Thickbroom, an engineer for an independent console workshop, who offered a lot of revealing insight into the issue. Thickbroom explained that the massive amount of heat generated by the HD systems — exacerbated by high-end technology crammed into a small compartment — contribute to their eventual demise (and all because you played on them so often).

For whatever reason, third parties are hesitant to use the word “Wii” in their Wii game titles, but “We” is catching on. We Ski , We Sing , and now Rapala: We Fish are demonstrating the new lazy way to title a Wii game.

PS3 marketing shifts focus to ‘total entertainment solution’

As Sony Computer Entertainment America relaunches the PlayStation 3 with its PS3 Slim model, its marketing campaign has deemed the console as a “total entertainment solution,” rather than a video game console. Its fall and holiday ad campaign touts the console as “the greatest gaming, Blu-ray playing, movie downloading system around.” Three bullet points no other console on the market can match
