Harmonix has been hard at work on a major title update for Rock Band 3 — today, we finally get a look at the fruits of the studio’s labor. The update — which is live now on Xbox 360, and is expected to drop on PS3 within the next 24 hours — addresses a diverse load of problems ; for instance, pausing the game too many times while playing a song disables scoring, which prevents players from using the pause-rewind feature to artificially boost their scores.

Despite being a franchise that’s all about sneaking, it comes as no surprise that the first three Splinter Cell games are getting HD facelifts for PS3 — after all, the Prince of Persia trilogy already has (on PSN, at least). Ubisoft has announced today that both “remastered” series will hit retail on Blu-ray disc March 22 for $40 apiece.

Sega Rally Online Arcade has made the trip from ratings board to release calendar in record time — it’s coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in 2011. Backwards compatibility with legacy game formats isn’t the sort of make-or-break feature that determines the fate of a new hardware system, but it does score major bonus points with the manufacturer’s fan base when it does work — and elicits plenty of groans when it doesn’t. When it comes to Sony’s next (generation) portable the answer to “will it play my UMD games” is clearly “no” — not even the PSP Go supports the original hardware’s disc format — but UMD owners are still hoping the company will do something about it.
